Your UK eVisa is your online proof of UK immigration status.

To access it, you must create a UKVI account.

Please use your own email address and mobile number.

What you need before starting

Please keep the following ready:

• Valid passport (clear JPEG copy of the biodata page)
• Visa application number (GWF)
• Laptop or smartphone (to use the UK Immigration: ID Check app)

Step 1: Create your UKVI account

https://www.gov.uk/evisa/set-up-ukvi-account

• Click on the link and scroll down to ‘Create a UKVI account’
• Select: I was last granted permission to come to or stay in the UK on or after 1 November 2024
• Do you have pre-settled or settled status through the EU Settlement Scheme? → No
• Do you have a visa or immigration application number? → Yes
• Select: Create an account
• Who are you creating this account for? → Me
• Complete personal details exactly as per your passport (name, surname, nationality)
• Select identity document: Passport (enter passport number and expiry date)
• Enter your date of birth
• Register your personal email address

⚠️ Please double-check your passport number and date of birth before submitting.

Important note on passport chip

You may be asked whether your passport has a biometric chip.

➡️ Answer: NO
South African passports do not have a biometric chip, so you must proceed using the photo upload and selfie verification option

Step 2: Verify your identity

You can either download the app on your smartphone or continue on your laptop (laptop is often easier).

You will be asked to:
• Upload a JPEG photo of your passport biodata page
• Complete a face scan/selfie

Once completed, your eVisa will be linked to your UKVI account.

Step 3: Wait for confirmation

You will receive:

A confirmation email that your request was submitted
A second email once your eVisa is ready

⏱ This can take a few minutes up to 5 days

Step 4: View and share your eVisa

Once ready, log into your UKVI account to:
• View your eVisa (example below)

• Generate a share code
• Prove your right to work, rent, or travel

Important before travel

Before flying to the UK:

• Ensure your passport is correctly linked to your UKVI account
• Double-check all personal details
• Generate a share code if required

If you get a new passport, you must update it in your UKVI account before travelling.
