Visitor visas are nonimmigrant visas for persons who want to enter the United States temporarily for business (visa category B1), tourism, pleasure or visiting (visa category B2), or a combination of both purposes (B1/B2).

Supporting documents are only one of many factors a consular officer will consider in your interview. Consular officers look at each application individually and consider professional, social, cultural and other factors during adjudication. Consular officers may look at your specific intentions, family situation, and your long-range plans and prospects within your country of residence.

Each case is examined individually and is accorded every consideration under the law.

Caution:

Do not present false documents.  Fraud or misrepresentation can result in permanent Visa ineligibility.

If confidentiality is of concern, the applicant should bring the documents to the Embassy or Consulate in a sealed envelope.

The Embassy or Consulate will not make this information available to anyone and will respect the confidentiality of the information.

ESTA stands for Electronic System for Travel Authorization. ESTA is an online application system developed by the United States government to pre-screen Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travellers before they are allow to board an airplane or ship bound for the United States.

  • It is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the VWP.
  • Authorization via ESTA does not determine whether a traveller is admissible to the United States.
  • It is a United States government requirement (mandated by the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007) for participating travellers from VWP countries.

Who may apply?

  • You are a citizen or eligible national of a Visa Waiver Program country.
  • You are currently not in possession of a visitor’s visa.
  • Your travel is for 90 days or less.
  • You plan to travel to the United States for business or pleasure.
  • You want to apply for a new authorization for one person or a group of applications for two or more persons.

Please be advised that as of 01 April 2016, the United States Government requires that all individuals who qualify for travel under the Visa Waiver Program MUST have an e-passport.
This change is limited to the visa waiver program and will not affect South Africans travelling on South African passports. South African citizens remain eligible to travel to the United States using an older passport without an embedded electronic chip, provided the South African traveller has a valid U.S. visa.

What do you need to apply?

  • Valid credit card (MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and Discover (JCB, Diners Club)) to pay US $14 per application.
  • Your contact information.
