In spring 2008, immigration to the UK underwent a complete process of reform, replacing most of the current system. Register as a British citizen if were born before 1983 to a British mother.

 

Eligibility
If you were born before 1983 to a British mother, you may be able to register as a British citizen using application form UKM. The eligibility requirements are:

  • You were born before January 1, 1983;
  • You have become a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies by descent if women had been able to pass this citizenship on to their children in the same way as men at the time of your birth;
  • You would have had the right of abode in the UK and have become a British citizen on January 1, 1983, if you have become a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies; and
  • You are of good character.

 

Attending the citizenship ceremony

  • If your application for British citizenship is successful you will be invited to take a citizenship pledge and an oath of allegiance at a citizenship ceremony within 90 days. These normally take place at your local council by appointment only. Children under 18 are not required to attend but may do so if they wish.
  • At the end of the citizenship ceremony, you will be issued with a Certificate of Registration Once you have received this, you can apply for your first British passport.

Register as a British citizen if you were born before 1 July 2006 to a British father and your parents were not married.

 

 

Eligibility

You will be entitled to registration if you meet all the requirements below:

  • You were born before 1 July 200.
  • You would have become a British citizen automatically if your mother had been married to your natural (biological) father.
  • You have never been a British citizen.

Eligibility
Register a non-British child for British citizenship who is under 18 at the time of application by:

  • Birth in the UK to parents who are now settled in the UK or have become British citizens.
  • Birth in the UK to parents who have joined the armed forces.
  • Child whose parents are applying for British citizenship.
  • Birth abroad to parents who are British by descent and have lived in
 the UK or a British overseas territory.
  • Birth abroad to parents who are British by descent but are now
 living in the UK or a British overseas territory.
  • Children adopted abroad by British citizen parents.
  • Children whose parents had renounced and subsequently resumed
 British citizenship.
  • Any other case where it is considered to be in the
 child’s best interests to be granted British citizenship.
  • Birth abroad to parents serving in the armed forces.

 

What happens once the child turns 18?
Once 18 years old, they must apply for British Citizenship either by registration or naturalisation using form AN.

Double descent through your maternal grandfather.

 

Eligibility
You may qualify if:

  • Your maternal grandfather (your mother’s father) was born in the UK or Northern Ireland.
  • You were born between 1 January 1949 and 31 December 1982.
  • You were born during (and in) what was characterised as a “Foreign Country”. This includes South Africa during the period 31 May 1962 and 31 December 1982, the United States of America and most European countries.

  • At the end of the citizenship ceremony, you will be issued with a Certificate of Registration Once you have received this, you can apply for your first British passport.
  • A thorough and detailed information gathering process ensuring you are provided with the latest current information.
  • Guidance as to the best submission process and submission centre regarding your applications.
  • Counselling throughout the preparation process providing you with checklists and templates for the supporting documents required for your application and completing and submitting your online application and arranging the couriering of your documents.
  • Preparation of a complete application dossier for presentation to Immigration Authorities, as required.
  • Assisting in liaising and obtaining where possible supporting documentation and accreditation from the required 3rd parties. Noting that in some instances the time frame of such documentation is beyond the control of SA Travelbug.
  • Arranging for the translation of required supporting documents.
  • If required we will also arrange your Consular appointment.
  • To maintain the confidentiality of the client’s information and documents and to only release these details to the noted Government officials and those required by law or in order to expedite the application, unless the Applicant provides the authority to release information or documents to any other party.

Can take up to 1 year to be approved.
